Today is the day that T-Mobile announces an iPhone-like phone, G1, powered by Google's Android — open source OS for mobile phones. Android itself is a very interesting, but quite a controversial project.
Anyway, without going into details of Android, I have just read unofficial leaks available now at TmoNews, also through TechCrunch and now dozens of blogs worldwide.

What is claimed to be confirmed is:
- One touch access to: Search, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Calendar, and Google Talk
- Gmail account and data plan required
- GPS
- 3.1 mp camera, no video recording
- No stereo bluetooth (A2DP)
- Dimensions: 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 in
- Weighs 5.6 ounces
- 480×320 65K color screen
- 5 hour talk time, 130 hour standby time
- Expandable up to 8GB
Interesting is:
- how will it really compare to iPhone
- it looks like iPhone will be still superior in terms of hardware
- how 3rd party developers will welcome Android
- it will be very difficult to compete with iPhone and even Symbian as a platform
- T-Mobile is expected to sell 600k of these phones this year, compared to 13m of iPhones
At this moment I still think iPhone is superior in terms of hardware and much better in terms of SDK and as a software platform. The big advantage of Android is that it's 100% open source — so this gives a great advantage. We will just see.

Collecting some data:
I would say, that those two are then comparable and not iPhone is superior. But maybe it's just not enough data to state.
In fact AGPS is better than GPS.
Also, with cameras THAT small that fit into phones, 2mpx vs 3mpx would not make much difference. What would matter more is quality and design of lenses, the CCD itself, possibly the flash.
Besides, I am not sure if iPhone will hit 32 GB that soon… Since I have just bought the 16 GB version, I hope to posses the "top model" at least for a while.
Anyway, we might just have to wait until the actual reviews hit the web. ;-)
